Essay: "Nothing to Lose"

by Paul Tovar
I do not think I've ever met any one person who can stand being defeated or deprived of something in their possession. A person may be deprived of something in their possession. A person may be deprived or lose anything other than an actual object which they possess. This could be an object of material, an object of mentality such as in a game or it could be an emotion towards another. When a person believes he owns something, he is subject to losing that which he believes to own.

When a person has nothing to lose, it is a good chance that person has no sensual feeling of desires. They do not wish or long for anything in particular. This may have come to be due to a prior disappointment in their lives which left a scar to be remembered. It is out of fear they do not wish to possess anything that can be lost.

There are others who have a conscience that is constantly telling them to give to others. They believe they are here to give rather than receive. It is their meaning in life. Their lives are already full and complete. Nothing could be lost or gained in such a fulfilled life.

I personally believe there is nothing to lose mentally in this world. Life is a constant growing obstacle, of which nobody knows the shape it is going to be at any given time. We must learn to receive these obstacles as they come. And we must be able to give our best no matter the outcome. If you cannot be deprived of something you do not possess, yet; you are willing to give at the spur of the moment, you technically have nothing to lose. You "win" life's game.
